Flora "Kathy" Katherine (Shackelford) KingeryAugust 21, 1927 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 89)
Flora “Kathy” Katherine (Shackelford) Kingery, 89, of Indianapolis, made her transition, to be with God, on Tuesday, June, 6, 2017, in Franklin. She was born on August 21, 1927 in Indianapolis, to her parents, Henry and Thelma (Drees) Shackelford, and was the final survivor of their five children.
Kathy attended Shortridge High School and majored in Home Economics, an area of study that she put to good use, with her family. On October 5, 1946, Kathy married Robert “Bob” B. Kingery and had three children: Don, Diane, and Richard “Dick”. Later, they lovingly welcomed each of their children’s spouses, into the family, Judy, Jim, and Joan. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Angie Teverbaugh, Rob Kingery, Jennifer Walker, Megan Kingery, Cathy Culberson, and Jennifer Wilson, and seven great-grandchildren: Brayden, Adalyn, Lillian, and Evelyn Walker, Kevin Teverbaugh, and Emily and Brian Culberson. Kathy was a generous, carrying and creative woman. She was very active in her church and in the Englewood O.E.S. 483; she served as the Worthy Matron of Oes 483 and later, as the District 11 Deputy.
She was a strong advocate of “life-long” learning and encouraged her sons as they both achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and the God and Country religious award. She also encouraged and supported her daughter’s music interests; supporting her pursuit of her receiving her graduate degree. Kathy was proud of Diane’s being a music teacher, for 40 years. She, along with her husband, would attend the programs and concerts, of her students. Even though she lost her dear husband, Bob, at the young age of 55, she navigated on through life’s journey with her abiding faith in God. Kathy worked as a bookkeeper and office manager, for many years; followed by another long stint as the general office manager, for her friend, Dr. Joe Botthorff. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, cooking and traveling. Kathy was a natural born teacher; she loved to share her time and talents with others. She was blessed with a gentle spirit and a hugely generous heart. Good sense of humor, and a positive, “Let’s go! Let’s do it” attitude!
Kathy is survived by her children, Donald (Judy) Kingery of Indianapolis, Diane Zuber of Granger, and Richard “Dick” (Joan) Kingery, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Kingery, her parents, four siblings, and her son-in-law, Jim Zuber.
Dr. Joe Bottorff and Rev. Charles Stanley will be conducting a memorial service at 11a.m. on Friday, June 9th at the Indiana Masonic Home, 690 S State St, Franklin, IN 46131. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel.
