John R. Horrocks

John R. Horrocks, 80, died Friday Dec. 28, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include, four children, John R. (Mary) Horrocks of Georgia, Elissa R.(Raymond) Robinson of Seymour, Greg (Katrina) Horrocks of Greenwood and Ken (Mary Ann) Horrocks of Bloomington, sister, Elizabeth Morgan of New York, brother, Stanley Horrocks of New York, eleven grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Elizabeth (Finney) Horrocks and three sisters, Iris Tokarz, Georgina Warner Weaver and June Stoliker. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday Dec. 31,2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North, with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.


Bonnie S. (Cunningham) Frias

Bonnie S. (Cunningham) Frias, 75, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday Dec. 27, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood. Bonnie was born May 27, 1937 in Kaufman, Texas to Clarence and Maggie Sue (Cooper) Cunningham. She married Richard O. Frias on May 29, 1959 in California; they were married for 53 years. Bonnie enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, doing crafts and selling her crafts at the Center Grove Craft Fair, where she had many loyal customers that came back every year. She was a loving wife and mother and her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her sparkling blue eyes and laughter. Bonnie touched many hearts and will be forever missed until we all meet again. Survivors include her husband, Richard Frias of Greenwood, three children, Brett (Wilma) Frias and Rachelle (Jeff) Hemmer both of Greenwood and Colette Frias of California, two sisters, Jimmie Harrell and Margie Carrillo both of California and two grandchildren, Kurtis R. and Colin S. Hemmer. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. A private family funeral service will be conducted. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery Glenns Valley in Greenwood.


Patrick J. Stalker

Patrick J. Stalker, 77, died Monday Dec. 24, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin. Patrick was born July 8, 1935 in Flint Michigan to Roy and Marcella (Allard) Stalker. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran. He married Janet (Stewart) Thomas in 1996 in Indianapolis. He was an independent truck driver for 20 years. Patrick enjoyed, wood working, animals, kids, crossword puzzles and all sports, even playing semi-pro baseball for some time. He was a volunteer for American Red Cross, Disaster Services for 17 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 205 in Franklin and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Brown County. Survivors include his wife, Janet Stalker of Franklin and a sister, Shirley Butler of Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marcella Stalker. A funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 114 Lancelot Dr. Franklin, Indiana, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Patrick’s honor to Hope Marie’s Fund Recue in care of Bargersville Veterinary Hospital, 4253 N. State Rd. 135 Franklin, Indiana 46131. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel.


Millicent Dorothy (Rollberg) Dustin

Millicent Dorothy (Rollberg) Dustin, 72, passed away Tuesday December 23, 2012 in Danville. She was a resident of Danville. Millicent was born January 11, 1940 in Chicago, Ill to Peter and Beatrice Rollberg. She was employed with the Las Vegas Rescue Mission as an administrator for 16 years. She retired in 2004. Survivors include son and daughter–in- law, Tony and Charlotte Drykos of Avon, three grandchildren, Nichole Neal, Kyle Drykos and Sarah Drykos and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Lemming and Emma Neal. She was preceded in death by her parents. A private family service will be conducted at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel


James R. Wooten

James Renick Wooten, 90, died Sunday Dec. 23, 2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland. James was born Sept. 1, 1922 in Finney, Ky. He married Lougene Shirley on Aug. 5, 1949 in Glasgow, Ky.; they were married for 63 years. James served in the United States Air Force during World War II in the European Theatre. He flew 35 missions over Germany and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1945. He taught high school in Barren County for four years and coached several ball teams. He retired from Allison Division of General Motors in 1984 after 33 years as an engineer of gas turbine engines. He has resided in Whiteland since 1955 and was involved in many community activities. James was a long time member of the Whiteland Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and elder during that time. His favorite past times were gardening, yard work, wood working and reading. Survivors include, his wife, Lougene Wooten of New Whiteland; three children, Pam (Jimmy) Lasiter of Whiteland, Jimmy (Sheila) Wooten of Franklin and Kevin (Mary) Wooten of Kentucky; brother, Billy Joe (Doris) Moore of Kentucky, eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe R. and Effie (Sears) Wooten and three sisters, Maxey and Frances Hawks and Henrietta Moore. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Whiteland Church of Christ, 6720 U.S. 31 North, Whiteland. William V. Wise

William VanBuren Wise, 90, died Monday Dec. 24, 2012 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Survivors include, his wife, Sylvia L. (Cliburn) Wise of Greenwood; two children, Jeffrey M. Wise of Camby and Beverly S. Tucker of Indianapolis; two brothers, Herbert A. Wise of Ohio and John C. Wise of Franklin, eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert A. and Ruth A. (VanBuren) Wise, sister, Margaret L. Skomp; brother, Allen J. Wise and a grandchild. William Joe Ford, 79, died Saturday Dec. 22, 2012 in North Vernon. He was a resident of North Vernon. Survivors include his wife, Loretta I. (Murphy) Ford, four children, Barbara J. Stevens, Glen A. Ford, Robert B. Ford and Connie B. Ford, eleven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Ford and mother, Gladys Roles. Judith Lou (Twyman) Jones

Judith Lou (Twyman) Jones, 77, died Tuesday Dec. 11, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Judith was born April 24, 1935 in Greenwood. Judith lived in Florida for 20 years, five years ago she moved to Kentucky residing with her daughter, Linda, then returning to Indianapolis in May. She was a homemaker and owned two small businesses with her husband while living in Florida where they also enjoyed dancing. She enjoyed reading, cooking, going to yard sales and flea markets. She loved spending time with her family. Survivors include, five children, James (Jan) Morris, Ronald (Sabrina) Morris, Debra ( Glenn Eastes) Baker, Linda (Butch) Mitchell and Jeff Jones, two step-children, Mark (Kathy) Jones and Johnny Jones, two brothers, Joe (Tonya) Twyman and Jayme (Gladys) Twyman, 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Gurwin C. Twyman, mother, Helen (Gosman) Henry, husband, Lloyd Jones and step-son, Larry Jones. A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday Dec. 21, 2012, with visitation from 6:00 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home

Lora C. Roberts, infant, died Friday Dec. 14, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Whiteland. Survivors include her father, Jeremy Roberts of Whiteland and mother, Kourtney Robinson of Whiteland, brother, Gabe Roberts of Whiteland, grandparents, Brenda and Kevin Robinson of Greenwood, Donnie Roberts of Whiteland and Cathy and Scott Lasley of Fairland, great-grandmothers, Mary Farrand of Greenwood and Mary Carlyle and Nola Robinson both of Ill. and great-great- granny Connie Carlyle of Ill. A private graveside service will be conducted. Anita Rae (Mynatt) Stocks, 55, died Friday Dec. 14, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include, her parents, Harold and Geraldine (Courtney) Mynatt, three children, Brandi Childers of Florida, Ronnie Stocks and Ashley Stocks both of Indianapolis, two sisters, Pam Kellam of Arcadia and Jennifer Ingalls of New Whiteland, two brothers, David Mynatt of Indianapolis and Mark Mynatt of Whiteland. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Taylor Stocks. Dallas Dale Sarles, 70, died Thursday Dec. 13, 2012 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Lois Marie (Hatfield) Lanham, 80, died Tuesday December 11, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Survivors include nine children, Ralph T. (Pam) Lanham Jr. of Columbus, Joyce Hunter, Wannamaker, Billy Lanham of Trafalgar, Judy ( David) Asher of Franklin, Jerry Lanham of Peoga, Patty (Stephen) Roddie of Franklin, Pete Lanham of Texas, Mike (Kim) Lanham of New Mexico, Becky Johnson of Indianapolis, three sisters, Catherine Hall of Trafalgar, Eula Weddle of Liberty, Ky. and Carol Hodge of Seymour, 29 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Edna (Pemberton) Hatfield, husband, Ralph J. Lanham Sr., son, Luke Lanham, sister, Norma Richardson and half brother, David Harris. Ezma Louise (Redfern) Eff

Ezma Louise (Redfern) Eff, 81, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in Greenwood. She was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include her husband, David Eff, of Indianapolis; seven children, Rick (Patti) Gregory and Vickie (Mike) Blevins, both of Tennessee, Kenneth (Kelly) Gregory, Gerri (Shelbie) Vickous, Deborah (Mike) Mason and Kathy (Joe) Smith, all of Greenwood, and Randy (Jackie) Gregory of Indianapolis; a sister, Mildred Owens of Tennessee; a brother, Fred Redfern of Tennessee; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Dove (Redferrin) Redfern; five brothers, Gerald, Roscoe, Joe and Guy Redfern and Deadrick Sanders; and two sisters, Linda Owens and Ella Burniss Norris. Eugene Luttrell

Eugene Luttrell, 83, of Greenwood, went home to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday December 4, 2012 at the home of his daughter Linda. Eugene was born August 29, 1929 to the late Alvin and Mary (Roy) Luttrell in Casey County, Kentucky. He married Mary Naomi Beaty on Jan. 22, 1958, they were married for 52 years, she preceded him death in 2010. He was employed with Davidson Lumber Company for 42 years; retiring in 2003. Eugene loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching old westerns, going out to eat and to yard sales. He attended the Pilgrim Nazarene Church and enjoyed his fellowship with his church family. He is survived by his five children, Linda (Glen) Runnells-McDaniel of Indianapolis, Danny Luttrell, Kathy Arnold and Robert (Brenda) Luttrell all of Greenwood and Patricia (Jack) Gonterman of Franklin, two sisters, Alice Luttrell of Kentucky and Evelyn Luttrell of Florida, brother, Junior Luttrell of Kentucky, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a step-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife and four brothers, Delmar, Alvis, Otis and Welby Luttrell. Edward Ernest Norris, 73, died Saturday Dec. 1,2012 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Greenwood. Survivors include, his mother, Alberta (Klepper) Norris of Indianapolis, his wife, Judy (Parker) Norris of Greenwood, three children, Peggy Norris of California, Mary (Mitch) Harden of Missouri and Dianna Norris of Chicago, two sisters, Carol (Ed) Tinsley and Susie (Danny) Thompson both of Indianapolis, brother, Michael (Sylvia) Norris of Georgia and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Norris, brother, Joe Norris and two sisters, Charlotte Surface and Margie Reese. Stephen Elmer Wyatt

Stephen Elmer Wyatt, 70, died Sunday December 2, 2012 in Centerville. He was a resident of Greenwood. Steve was born August 19, 1942 to Elmer and Caroline (Veach) Wyatt in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended New Richmond High School in Ohio. He married Georgia Arlene Albright on Feb. 25 1961 in Ohio; they were married for 51 years. Steve was a car salesman, starting at age 21. He retired from Hubler Chevrolet in 1994 to focus on his growing ticket broker business, Great Seats. He later founded and operated two excavating companies in the Indianapolis area. He was an avid golfer and a racing fan. He loved spending time with his family. Survivors include, his wife, Georgia Arlene Wyatt of Greenwood, two children, Stephen T. (Erin) Wyatt of Bloomington and Stacey L. (Johan) Hoover of Ohio, sister, Paula J. Robbins of Virginia and five grandchildren, Satchel, Molly and Isaac Wyatt and Riley and Peyton Hoover. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Wyatt and mother, Caroline (Veach) Spurgeon. A funeral service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North. Edward James Cody Jr.

Edward James Cody Jr., 76, died Wednesday Nov. 28, 2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of Nineveh and formerly of Indianapolis. Ed was born July 14, 1936 to Edward Sr. and Dorothy (Swartz) Cody in Indianapolis. He was self employed as a shoe salesman. The most important thing in Ed’s life was his family. Attending the many family gatherings was what he cherished most. Watching his family together as a strong unit made him proud. He enjoyed most sports, especially golf and auto racing. He had several grandchildren involved in Kart racing. He followed their success and told everyone he met, including strangers, how proud he was of their accomplishments. Ed also came up with some witty comments, that always made his kids shake their heads, but put a smile on their faces. He will be truly missed by his family. Survivors include his ten children, Donna ( James) Cooper and Dawn (Mark)Flick both of Nineveh, Denise (Greg) Malone and Danny ( Heather) Cody both of Brownsburg, Steve (Amanda) Cody of Noblesville, Deann Baker and Dee Dee Agard both of Franklin, Frank Cody of Florida, Jeff (Pam) Cody of Indianapolis and Eric (Faith) Cody of North Carolina, former wife of 40 years, Tillie Cody, three sisters, Claire Stuckey, Judy Malone and Mary D. Burton, 14 grandchildren, Tiffany Ankney, Molly Hillman, Jimmy Arbuckle, Jessica Yager, Justin Baker, Haley and Zack Agard, Coleton, Mitchell, Allison, Maddison and Abby Cody, Eric Cooper and Heather Arnold, seven great- grandchildren and special friends, Jim Payton, Ethel Sandler and Jack Sandler. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Cody Sr., mother, Dorothy Wall, brother, Martin Cody and two sisters, Ricki Jean Payton and Janet Sandler. Rebecca L. (Givens) Williams

Rebecca L. (Givens) Williams, 63, died Tuesday Nov. 27, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Whiteland. Rebecca was born Sept. 15, 1949 to Charles and Anna Mae (Tweedy) Givens in Chicago. She received a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminology from Indiana State University. Rebecca married James E. “Jim” Williams on July 24, 1966 in Terre Haute. They were married for 46 years. She was employed with the State of Indiana as a case worker in the Department of Family Service Administration for 19 years. Rebecca enjoyed roller skating, bowling, cooking and baking. She loved Christmas and spending time with her family. Her time with her husband, children, and grandchildren made her truly happy. Rebecca was preceded in death by her father Charles Givens and her grandson Matthew Williams. She was survived by her mother, Anna Mae Brock; her husband, Jim Williams and their two children, Paul Williams, his wife Angela and Tabitha Williams; three grandchildren, Trinity Williams, Brittany Williams and Emily Williams; her brother, Scott Brock and his wife Susie; her nephews, Chase Williams, Chris Brock, his wife Meghan, Brandon Brock, and Cody Brock A funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Saturday Dec. 1, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S, Hwy 31 North. Bert Riley, 77, died Saturday Nov. 24, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife, Mable (Neace) Riley of Indianapolis, two children, Pamela (Alvin) Holliday of Indianapolis and Brian (Angela) Riley of Wannamaker, two sisters, Geneva Turner of Ohio and Alma Sandlin of Kentucky, brother, Elmer Riley of Kentucky and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robin and Bitha (Smith) Riley and two brothers, Claude and Vernon Riley. Liam Redenbarger, infant, died Wednesday Nov. 21, 2012 in Indianapolis. A graveside burial service was held at Pleasant View Cmemtery in Unionville, Indiana.


George C. Pappas

George C. Pappas, 76, died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012. He was a resident of Franklin. He was a self-employed artist. Survivors include, his sister, Sara Helms of Brooklyn and niece, Carolyn Norris of Bargersville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Anna (Burton) Pappas, sister, Bessie Baker and brother, Nicky Pappas. No services are planned.


Peggy E. (Robinson) Saffran

Peggy E.(Robinson) Saffran, 71, died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012 in Columbus. She was a resident of Trafalgar. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. James and Peggy were married for 52 years. Survivors include, her husband, James D. Saffran of Trafalgar, four children, Marie Saffran of Whiteland, James R. Saffran of Trafalgar, Deborah Losey of Brown County and Georgia Braden of Indianapolis, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmore and Arlis (Coleman) Robinson and three siblings. Clarence Kesterson, 85, died Saturday Nov. 17,2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of Morgantown. Survivors include, a sister, Joan Kesterson. Roger Matthew Husselman

Roger Matthew Husselman, 52, died Friday Nov. 16, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Steve was employed with the City of Whiteland as treatment plant technician. He was avid collector of hats and antiques. He enjoyed watching NASCAR. He loved spending time with his family. Bernard Lee Dennis, 89, died Sunday Nov. 4, 2012 at Indiana Masonic home in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. Bernard was born Sept. 12, 1923 in Dowling, Ohio to Vivan and Hazel (Duncan) Dennis. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was married to Marjorie Flynn Dennis. He was employed with Eli Lilly Company in sales for 33 years, retiring in 1980. Bernard was a member of the Franklin American Legion Post, Franklin Masonic Lodge 107, the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis and the Tabernacle Christian Church in Franklin. He enjoyed fishing and golf. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Dennis of Franklin, daughter, Linda Dennis Rugenstein of Greenwood, two grandchildren, J. Wade (Amie) Rugenstein of Indianapolis and Chad (Lisa) Rugenstein of Ohio, five great-grandchildren, niece, Nancy Thornton Duncan and two great-nieces Deedra and Hannah Duncan all of Indianapolis. Sarah J. (Doub) Shrum, 88, died Monday Nov. 5, 2012 at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Sarah was born March 4, 1924 in Franklin to Virgil and Elva (Sefton) Doub. She graduated from New Winchester High School, class of 1942. She was employed with Arvins, then with Gateway Services as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1989. After a couple of years, she decided to return to work at the cafeteria at Franklin College for 11 years. Sarah enjoyed sports, playing basketball and softball in her younger days. She was an avid Indiana University and Indiana Pacers fan. She enjoyed playing Euchre. She was a member of the Whiteland Jubilee Lodge- Eastern Star, Johnson County Home Extension and longtime member of the Community Congregational Church in Franklin. Survivors include four children, Jerry (Janet) Shrum of Franklin, Darlene (Larry) Bethke of Tennessee, Peggy Riddle of Indianapolis and Sandra (Perry) Heaton of Kentucky, sister-in-law, Jane Doub of North Salem, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Elva Doub, sister, Lucile Lancaster and three brothers, John, Virgil N. and Clarence Doub. She was employed with Arvins, Morgan Packing Company and Franklin Plastics as a machine operator, retiring after 17 years service. She enjoyed gardening and quilting. She loved the outdoors and spent time fishing, mushroom hunting and splitting wood for fires. She was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church. James W. “Wes” Alley, 33, died Monday October 29, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood. Wes was born Nov. 9, 1978 to James E. and Bonnie J. (Barnes) Alley in Martinsville. He was employed in sales with The Tile Shop in Indianapolis. Wes was a songwriter and musician. He played the banjo, guitar and mandolin. He enjoyed the bluegrass music scene and traveling the country in the music industry. He was the road manager for a year for country singer Marty Raybon. Recently he helped with a music fund raiser in Muncie for dear friend, Lynn Waters, to help with her stem cell surgery in Spain. He enjoyed fishing and loved spending time with his family. Wes enjoyed and attended Westside Baptist Church in Muncie. Survivors include his parents, James and Bonnie Alley of Whiteland, sister, Shaunda (Ryan) Luken of Florida, grandmother, Mary Rose Hylton of Tenn., two nieces, Kaitlind and Hunter Luken and his dog, Gibson. Judith D. (Ratliff) Sullivan, 73, died Monday October 22, 2012 in Greenwood. She was a resident of Nineveh. Judith was born on Nov. 13, 1938 to Eugene and Zella (Wall) Ratliff in Indianapolis. She married Arthur Sullivan on July 4, 1957 in Martinsville; they were married for 55 years. She was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a claims processer for several years. Judith enjoyed reading and traveling to Israel. She was a devoted Christian. Richard A. Phillips Jr., 54, died Monday October 15, 2012 in Orlando, Florida. He was a resident of Florida and formerly of Greenwood. Richard was born on March 22, 1958 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Raichard A.Sr. and Nancy Phillips. He was a sales associate at Home Depot and did handy man repairs as well. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle. He was involved in a number of Missionary trips as a missionary. He atttended the Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church in Florida. Adlin Carol (Howard) Sullivan, 65, died Saturday October 13, 2012 in Morgantown. She was a resident of Morgantown and formerly of Greenwood. She was born Nov 27, 1946 in Greenwood to James D. and Pauline L. (Fewell) Howard. Adlin was a Whiteland Community High School graduate, class of 1965. She was employed as a dues clerk for Teamster Local 135 in Indianapolis for 12 years, then worked as a secretary for KDC Truck and Trailer Repair, retiring in 2008. Adlin enjoyed collecting pictures and statues of wolves and cats, watching Whiteland High School football and feeding the birds. She was a NASCAR fan. She was a member of the Teamster Local #135 in Indianapolis. Survivors include, her father, James D. Howard, two children, Laura A. (Dan) Engel and James Bryan (Deanna) Heater, sister, Wilma L. Evers, brother, Dwight D. Polly was born June 27, 1927 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky to Everitt and Myrtle (Denny) Lawson. She was a cosmetic sales person at LS Ayres for 17 years. Polly loved playing bingo and going to the casinos. She enjoyed attending the Concord Senior Citizens Center almost every day. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Roger Lewis “Rocky” Thomas

Dr. Roger Lewis “Rocky” Thomas, 57, died Tuesday October 9, 2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of Franklin. Rocky was born Dec. 11, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas. He received a PhD in Psychology from University of New Mexico. He was a professor at Texas Christian University from 1983 to 1991 then came to Franklin College and continued teaching until retiring in 2010. He enjoyed always wearing a Hawaiian shirt while teaching. Rocky could master anything he tried, like bowling, golf and playing instruments. He was an avid musician and drummer. He played with Cloud Burst at the Emporia. He loved being with his son, Jimmy, teaching him football, basketball and playing the guitar. He was a Kansas City Chiefs fan. Survivors include his mother, Darleen (Kracht) Fryatt, step- father, Eugene Fryatt both of Kansas, son, James “Jimmy” Casey Thomas of Franklin, two sisters, Penny Schlie and Tammy Lee Evans both of Missouri, two step-sisters, Debby Shockley of Missouri and Lori Schmitz of Kansas, two step-brothers, David Fryatt of Missouri and Bud Fryatt of Nebraska, two nieces Katie Werner and Emily Evans and three nephews, Andy Schlie, Jas Carpenter and Daniel Evans. Elmer D. Ford

Elmer D. Ford, 86, died Friday Oct. 5, 2012 in Franklin. He was a resident of New Whiteland. Elmer was born March 6, 1926 in Beech Grove to Alfred and Orpha (Merrill) Ford. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp. Veteran. Elmer grew up on the Westside of Indianapolis and married his grade school sweetheart, Betty King on Dec. 24,1944 in Indianapolis; they were married for 67 years. He was employed for Borden’s Milk and Ice Cream until he started his own Borden’s distributing company, Armstrong Milk and Ice Cream Company; retiring in 1979. He also was owner of the Get & Go Markets in Westside of Indianapolis. During his life, Elmer, served as President of the New Whiteland Town Board for 10 years. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and Greenwood American Legion Post #252. He was a Mason since 1949 in the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669 F&AM, then later transferred to the Whiteland Jubilee Lodge #746. He was also a member of the Sahara Grotto since 1956. Elmer was the founder of the Westside Indianapolis Historical Society. He enjoyed spending time on the computer, bowling, golfing and boating. Elmer and Betty spent their winters living in Key West, Florida, where he enjoyed fishing. He loved being with his family. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ford of New Whiteland, three children, Robert “Bob” ( Helen) Ford of Indianapolis, Steve (Debbie) Ford and Scot (Darlene) Ford both of Whiteland, four grandchildren, Julia “Dude” Ford, Rob (Meagan) Ford, Christy (Jared) Donica and April (Rickie) Cooper and three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Lily Lou Donica and Jaxon Cooper. Virginia L. (Wineinger) Adams, 81, passed away Sunday Sept. 30, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin. Virginia was born July 10, 1931 in French Lick, Indiana to Cleo and Ida Lois (Collins) Wineinger.Sshe married Donald E. Adams on May 23, 1993. She was a cashier for Standard Grocery in Franklin for 20 years. Virginia enjoyed traveling out west. She was a very active member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Franklin. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Donald E. Nancy Carol ( Atkinson)Turner

Nancy C. ( Atkinson) Turner, 65, passed away on Monday September 24, 2012 in Greenwood. She was born on September, 21 1947 in Brazil, Indiana to Charles and Ruth (Overman) Atkinson. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a teenager in 1963 where she met and later married Steve Turner in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1965. She went on to graduate from real estate school in 1975. She worked for Ebeyer Real Estate for 4 Years and Carpenter Realtors for 2 years. In 1983, Nancy started working for Inland Mortgage and became a mortgage loan officer, working in that position for several years . She was employed by Winterwood Mortgage, until recently, when she became semi-retired due to illness. She enjoyed scrapbooking, traveling, church activities, giving service, plays, the arts, and spending time with her nine grandchildren. The diamonds of her life are her 4 children. They were her most precious possessions. Her lifelong real estate career and her relationship with the Savior were most important. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Nadeen Atkinson; a sister, Karen Ayers; and a baby brother. Surviving are her four children; Laura Turner of Indianapolis; Camille (Sean) Evans of Danville; Steve (Courtney) Turner of Indianapolis; Kirk (Angel) Turner of Greenwood; her beautiful nine grandchildren, Nathan Hawks, Crystal and Abigail Evans, Adrianna, Chase, Gavin, Liam, Maddax, and Jonnie Turner, a sister, Darlene Atkinson (Mike Lindstedt) of Indianapolis; two brothers, Charles (Jeanette) Atkinson of Memphis, TN and Mark Atkinson of Indianapolis, countless aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and family. Doyle Helgo Jessen

Doyle Helgo Jessen, 90, passed away Saturday Sept. 15, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Whiteland and formerly of Michigan and Florida. Doyle was born April 30, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to Nels Christian and Lena (Rasmussen) Jessen. He grew up in Lansing, Michigan and graduated from Central High School, class of 1941. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII. Doyle attended Michigan State University for 2 years then transferred to Wayne State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Mortuary science. He was a licensed funeral director for 63 years. He owned and operated, with his wife, Gwen, Jessen Funeral Home, first in Hillsdale and then in Lansing, where they built a new funeral home on West Saginaw St., until retiring in 1976. He enjoyed yard work, boating, golf, fishing and playing bridge. He enjoyed his memberships at the Lansing Country Club and Bretton Woods Lion’s Club. Doyle and Gwen took great pleasure in their homes in Naples, Florida and Torch Lake, Michigan where they loved entertaining family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Survivors include three children, C. John (Suellen) Jessen of Nineveh, Indiana, Lorna J. Fenner of Kalamazoo and Jill R. (Rick) Oppenlander, Lawton, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Gwendolyn A. (Gorsline) Jessen and four brothers, Haven, Clarence, Robert and Arnold Jessen. Robert Dion “Dbo” Hudson

Robert Dion “Dbo” Hudson, 50, died Monday Sept. 10, 2012 in Fountaintown. He was a resident of Fountaintown. Dion was born Nov. 6. 1961 in Indianapolis. He graduated for Southport High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran. He married Kathleen Luttrell on March 31, 2001 in Garfield Park Indianapolis. He was employed with Local Union 120 as a laborer for 13 years in Indianapolis. Dion enjoyed fishing, boating and watching NASCAR. He was an avid card player and played cards every Tuesday at the New Palestine Lions Club. He enjoyed listening to music and playing his guitar. He was a member of the Local Union 120 in Indianapolis. He loved spending time with his friends, family and grandchildren. Dion was a strong man and fought a brave fight against cancer for 4 years. Kay Karolyn (Jorgensen) Arnold, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Tuesday Sept. 4, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Kay was born March 8, 1936 in Carroll, Iowa to Harold and Agnes (Kvamme) Jorgensen. She married Duane Arnold in Omaha Nebraska on July 12, 1958; they were married for 54 years. Kay was a pre-school teacher for many years at the Co-Op pre-school at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin. She loved playing the piano and organ. She was a piano teacher in the Franklin community for 25 years. She was a founding member of the Johnson County Pregnancy Center. She had a passion for involvement with Foreign Missions Discipleship Training. Survivors include, her husband, Duane Arnold of Franklin, two children, Kirsten (Rex) Windhorst of Franklin and Kevin (Lillian) Arnold of Greenwood, a sister, Karen Kennedy of Nebraska and two grandchildren, Stacey and Stephen Windhorst of Franklin. Ina (Stogsdill) Henderson, 86, passed away Wednesday August 29, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Ina was born Feb 21, 1926 to Chester and Mary C. (Alexander) Stogsdill in Somerset, Kentucky. With her husband, Lewis, she owned and operated One Hour Dry Cleaning in Franklin for 26 years. Ina enjoyed crocheting, doing yard work and going to the Franklin Senior Center. She belonged to the Beacons Bible study group. She attended Franklin Memorial Christian Church. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was involved and loved motor sports, racing and Indy Cars. Survivors include seven children, Marcel, Marc, Caroline, Claudette and Amber Boulianne, Carolle O’Neil and Carla Boulianne-Larsen,10 siblings, 15 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, close family friend, Kent Meunier and his best friend, his dog, Brian. Vlacie Mae ‘Lacy” (Kirby) Buck, 72, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday August 5, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin. Lacy was born on Dec. 10, 1939 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky, the daughter of Cecil and Bessie (Comer) Kirby. Mrs. Buck was a member of the First Church of Jesus Christ of Sandspring, Kentucky. She has lived in Franklin for 57 years and was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, M. Kenneth Buck of Franklin, four sons, Kenny (Brandy) Buck, Bobby Buck and Jerry (Margie) Buck, all of Franklin and Ricky (Dawn) Buck of Greenwood, three sisters, Doris Souder of Ohio, Villa (Jeff) Tingle of New Whiteland, Jenny (Gary) Vickers of Kentucky and special sister, Barbara (Billy) French of Franklin, a brother, Paul (Clarice) Kirby of Kentucky, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Karen Sue (Sowders) Ayers, died Tuesday July 31, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood. Karen was born July 6, 1952 in Beech Grove, Indiana. She was a homemaker. She was an extreme coupon person and volunteered with different organizations. She enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, quilting and being an artist. Karen loved helping others and always sent out a loving hand to anyone she would meet. Karen graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science and Psychology. Survivors include, her son, Michael (Ashley) Ayers of Greenwood, companion, Kevin Lock of Greenwood, two sisters, Darlene (Mike) Atkinson-Lindstet of Indianapolis and Nancy Turner of Greenwood, two brothers, Mark Atkinson of Indianapolis and Chuck Atkinson of Tenn., two grandchildren,Andrew and Gabriel Ladd of Greenwood and her cat Knox. Dorthela (Merklin) Scotten, 85, passed away Friday July 27, 2012 in Nashville. She was a resident of Nashville. Dorthela was born Oct. 28, 1926 in Indianapolis to Walter and Velma (Stader) Merklin. She married Lowell E. Scotten in 1980; they were marriedfor 32 years. Dorthela was employed with the United States Post Officeas a secretary for 40 years; retiring in 1980. Ajeo R. Salazar Fernandez, 71, died Sunday July 8, 2012 in Greenwood. He was a resident of Franklin. Ajeo was born Sept. 23, 1940 in San Jose, Costa Rica. He has lived in the United States since 1963. He married Virginia Vega on Oct. 11, 1963 in New York. They were married for 48 years. He had an engineering degree from F.I.T. He was self-employed as a business developer in import/export business for 35 years. He also operated ERJ Alterations for 10 years, with his wife, Virginia, where he was the tailor. Ajeo and Virginia were active in Latin dancing in Washington and Florida. He enjoyed playing and watching soccer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Salazar of Franklin, three children, Erwin Salazar, wife Pamela, of Franklin, Raleigh K. George P. Zinn Jr. passed away on July 2, 2012 in Franklin: He was a resident of Greenwood. George was born on July 13, 1923 to George P. and Miranda (Buchanan) Zinn in Sanger California. His parents have preceeded him in death. George married Doris Patterson Zinn and they have been married for 63 years. George was a minister serving the Lord for 35 years retiring in 2007. He received his masters degree in Education from BowlingGreen University. George served his country in the US ARMY AIR CORPS. George was an accomplished singer recording many gospel songs and singing from age 15 until just recently.. Louis E. “Louie” Leitzell, 77, died Friday June 29, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include three children, Catherine Donley of Greenwood, Susan (Jim) Falls of Tenn. and Glenn (Liza) Leitzell of Indianapolis, a sister, Joyce Leitzell and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Leitzell, mother, Helen Kraii and brother, Robert Leitzell. Paula Beth (Fergason) Ramey

Paula Beth (Fergason) Ramey, 57, passed away Wednesday June 27, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin. Paula was born Jan. 1,1955 in Franklin to Richard and Sally Frances Fergason. She attended Franklin schools, including Franklin College and received her Master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. Paula or Polly, as she was known to many, worked at Johnson Memorial Hospital for many years in the Todd Aikens unit as Director of Admissions and was currently employed at the Franklin United Methodist Community as Director of Rehab Services. Paula was involved in many activities for the senior citizens of Johnson County and was instrumental in starting the Healing Hearts bereavement group for anyone who had lost a child. She organized a memorial every year at Christmas for the members of the group. Paula was very generous, especially at Christmas time, in finding families that were in need of help and anonymously made sure that they had a nice Christmas. Survivors include a daughter, Holly Ann Ramey of Franklin, three sisters, Patty (Steve) Mitchell, Holly (Randy) Pease both of Franklin and Kelly (Tom) Ferry of Trafalgar, brother Tony (Vicki) Miller of Greenwood and several nieces and nephews who considered her as the favorite aunt in the whole world. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Fergason and Sally Frances (Witt) Fergason Miller, husband Lloyd Ramey and three brothers, Randy, Rick and Rex Fergason. Paula was respected and loved by anyone who knew her and she was cherished by her family. She will be missed more than words can express. He graduated from Maple Valley High School. He was a truck driver for 24 years at S&H Transportation in Greenwood. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, deer camp and trout camp. Although Florence had resided in Franklin, Indiana for the past few years, she had spent most of her life in the Greensboro, Spiceland and New Castle areas. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and bird watching. She belonged to the Greensboro Nazarene church. To her friends and family she was known as “Dixie” and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Silas Garfield Clapp, two daughters, Barbara Jean Mitchell and Virginia Ann Parrish, brothers, Norman, Clarence, Johnny, Forrest, Horace and one sister, Edna. Left to cherish Dixie’s loving memory are one sister, Edith Tungate of Anderson, IN. along with grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell of Franklin, Lisa Price of Dixon Springs, TN, Maria Bates of Straughn, IN and Jennifer Dixon of Cornwall, England. Also surviving are several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren along with many, many lifelong friends whom Dixie loved. A private family graveside service is scheduled.


Shirley F. (Pennington) Pierce

Shirley F. (Pennington) Pierce, 61, of Indianapolis died on June 25, 2012 in Indianapolis. She is survived by her husband Max Pierce of Indianapolis, 4 children: David Copp of Whiteland, Greg (Michelle) Copp of Greenwood, Melissa Harris and Brian Pierce of Indianapoliis, a sister, Lois Remick of Martinsville, three brother, Danny Pennington of Martinsville, Bill Pennington of Ohio and Stan Pennington of Indianapolis, 7 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, James Pennington, and Laura (Waters) Mullin and a brother, Finas Pennington. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m.Friday June 29, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, with visitation from 4:00 to 8pm Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.


Eldon Denton “Eddie” Jewell Jr.

Eldon Denton “Eddie” Jewell Jr., 53, died Saturday June 23, 2102 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Franklin.Survivors include his wife, Darlene (Ramsey) Jewell of Franklin, his mother, Hilda R. (Barclay) Wilhite of Columbus, five children, Tosha Ramsey, Nina Jewell, Jamie Jewell and Eldon D. Jewell III all of Franklin and Pamela Jewell of Pennsylvania, three sisters, Ann Hyatt of Indianapolis, Pamela Ramsey of Whiteland and Cheryl Willard of Franklin, three brothers, Gene Jewell of Indianapolis, Sonny Wilhite of Columbus and Glenn Wilhite Jr. of Franklin and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon D. Jewell Sr. and a sister, Rebecca Carr. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 28, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. Hwy 31 North. Jeffrey A. King

Jeffrey A. King, 55, died Monday June 18, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood. No service are planned.


Jack Webb

Jack Vernon Webb, 77, died June 16, 2012 in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife, Frances (Wright) Webb, four children, Jack Jacobs and Steve Wright, both of Indianapolis, Jill Hall and Adam Hall both of Fairland, a sister Betty Coglin of Arizona and a brother, Harold Webb of Nineveh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry E. and Gertrude (Pike) Webb, two brothers Anthony Kremple and Howard Webb and a sister, Joyce Lee. Rosemary Sandy

Rosemary Sandy, 89, died Sunday June 17, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis and formerlyof Nineveh. Rosemary was born Dec. 14, 1922 to Shirrel and Mary (Sauer) Sandy in Indianapolis. She was employed with Indiana Bell Telephone as a Systems Analyst. She enjoyed golfing. Survivors include, her cousin, Mary Catherine McGillen of Indianapolis and her close friends, Amy Haupert of Nineveh and Kelli Strausser of Franklin. She was preceded in death by her parents and close friend, Norma Burkert. A funeral service was conducted Wednesday June 20, 2012 at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel. Burial was at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.


Wanda G. (Long) Hart

Wanda G. (Long) Hart, 74, died Saturday June 16, 2012 in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Franklin. Wanda was born March 2, 1938 to Thomas Milton and Nettie (Barlow) Long in Liberty, Kentucky. She was married to James Roscoe Hart; he preceded her in death in 2011. Wanda was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, farming, raising Hereford cattle and growing flowers. She was a member of the Shiloh Community Church in Franklin. Survivors include; three children, James Anthony (Debra Sue) Hart, Rhonda Janeen Hart and Susan Ann Hart all of Franklin, four sisters, Katherine Scott, Lucille Scott and Barbara Hayes all of Kentucky and Faye Murphy of Illinois, two brothers, Junior and Omer Long of Kentucky, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Hart, three sisters, Lorene Cochran, Nancy Cochran and Nellie Grammer and two brothers, Fred and Curtis Long. Betty C. (Hall) Garland

Betty C. (Hall) Garland, 78, died Saturday June 16, 2012 in Franklin. S he was a resident of Franklin. Survivors include, six children, Michael L.(Frieda) Foster of Raccoon Lake, Debra S. (Gail) Boswell of Franklin, Teresa L. (Darrin) Kleiner of Whiteland, Denise A. Foster, Tammy J. (Justin) Holland and Tracy L. (Matthew) Hopkins all of Colorado, 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Mary Lee (Glass) Hall, husband, Harold Garland, a son, Layman J. Foster, a daughter, Diana K.Gresham, a brother, Cecil Hall, a sister, Louise McAdams. Florence ( Terpstra) Nolting

Florence (Terpstra) Nolting, 84, died Tuesday June 12, 2012 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Johnson County. She was born Nov. 7, 1927 in Johnson County near Acton. Her parents were Joseph “Joe” Terpstra and Pietje (Kleiterp) Terpstra.She married Donald W. Nolting on March 16, 1947. She was a graduate of Clark High School of Johnson County. Florence was a lifelong farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church. Florence enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, family gatherings, her ladies card group, watching sports on television and going out to dinner. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hart of Indianapolis, three sons, Ronald Nolting and David Nolting both of Indianapolis and Gary Nolting of Needham, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Nolting, an infant sister, Barbara Ann Terpstra, a sister, Dorothy Pence and a brother, Engbert John “Hap” Terpstra. Rev. James Henry Jones

James Henry Jones, 87, died June 11, 2012 in Avon. He was a resident of Avon and a former resident of Carmel. James served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in industrial sales for forty plus years. He was a member for fifty plus years at First Baptist Church of Indianapolis and also the Kansas City, Kansas Masonic Delaware Lodge # 96. Survivors include his two daughters, Deborah L. (Larry) Watson of Avon and Pamela J. (Eugene Dean) Hicks of Whiteland, daughter-in-law, Marianne Barstow of Algonquin, Ill., seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn J. (Hood) Jones, a son, J. Richard Jones, his parents, William Jones and Beatrice (Hayden) Sullivan and a sister, Dorothy (Jones) Creveling. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday June 23, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 8600 N. College Ave, Indianapolis. Alma (Boyer) Wesselman

Alma (Boyer) Wesselman, 95, died Saturday June 9, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Franklin and formerly of Tallula, Illinois. Alma enjoyed making pies, reading and playing bingo. She was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church. Survivors include two sons, Henry C. (Ellen) Wesselman Jr. and Ronald E. (Marty) Wesselman both of Franklin, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ellen Boyer, husband, Henry C. Wesselman Sr., two sisters, Mildred Wesselman and Amelia Tisdale and three brothers, Ernest, Harmon and Johnny Bill Boyer. Marsha Jo Mills, 63, died, Sunday June 3, 2012 in Franklin. She was a resident of Greenwood. Marsha was born March 17, 1949 in Indianapolis. She was a key punch operator at Fort Benjamin Harrison and Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Survivors include, her father, Joseph Mills of Greenwood, sister Deborah Mills Craven of Fishers, brother Bob (Kim) Mills of Indianapolis, nieces and nephews, Brooke Craven Vinton, Doug Vinton, Stacy Craven and Niki Norris Hammonds. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacqueline (Dorsey) Mills and brother, Michael Mills.
