Barbara A. Hargis-Allen, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Hickory Creek in Franklin. She was born December 24, 1927 to James S. Toler and Gustava M. Toler. She resided in Franklin since 2011, originally from Indianapolis, IN. Barbara loved to dance. She was a member of the VFW Post #2999. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, she always loved to decorate her house for the holiday. Barbara was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Barbara quit school at the age of 16 to go work by her mother’s side at C & M Restaurant. She later also worked for A & P Food Store, Standard Food Store and Merchant National Bank at the downtown Indianapolis branch. Barbara retired from Addison Wesley Book Publishing in 1991 after working there for more than 15 years. Barbara is survived by her children, Paula Davidson-Allen and Cecilia Hargis (Stevens). Grandchildren, Derek Davidson, Jeremy Davidson, William Davidson, Eric Davidson, Traci Hardcastle and Lela Allen. Her sister, Delores (Harold) Fritz of Norcross, GA; her brother, Claude (Sandy) Fisher of Greenfield, IN, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Karen Davidson-Hardcastle her husband Paul, survives; and by her granddaughter, Brittaine Turley-Hargis.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held January 12th at Jessen Funeral Home, 729 N. U.S. Hwy 31, Whiteland, IN 46184. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services immediately following. Burial will be at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N. Holt Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46222.
