Catherine (Sechrest) Howard, 91, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, August 20, 2018. She was born to Everett and Martha (Bean) Sechrest on July 12, 1927 in Lexington, North Carolina.
Catherine married Alvin D. Howard in Lexington, North Carolina on November 27, 1948. She attended Mercer University for two years. She worked for Jefferson National Life Insurance for 20 years, retiring in 1990. Catherine was known for her unselfish love and devotion to her family and desire to live a life that would bring honor to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or to Southport Presbyterian Church in Catherine’s honor.
Catherine is survived by her three daughters, Cathy (Fred) Grams, Paige (Darryl) Borders and Julie (David) Mennel; five grandchildren, James (Jessica) Staley, Christopher Borders, Emily Mennel, Patrick Mennel and Nicholas Mennel; three great-grandchildren, Brody Staley, Brett Hite and Tori Hite; a sister-in-law, Nancy Jacobs; three nieces, Robin Bigham, Susan Keever and Carla Berlin; and three nephews, David Sechrest, Mark Jacobs and Dana Trantham.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Alvin D. Howard in February 1991; her parents, Everett and Martha (Bean) Sechrest; and seven siblings, James Sechrest, Mildred Sechrest, Everett Sechrest, Carl Sechrest, Elizabeth Booth, Maxine Trantham and John Sechrest.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Southport Presbyterian Church, 7525 McFarland Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46237. Family and friends may gather from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel.
