Donald Maggard, 81, went home to be with the Lord on November 8, 2019. He passed peacefully at his home with his family. He was a resident of Franklin.
Donald was born on March 7, 1938, in Van, Kentucky.
His parents were Dewey Maggard and Martha (Combs) Maggard. He married Vercie Elese Birdwell on July 17, 1961. They were married for 58 years.
Donald was a man of great faith and loved reading his Bible. He belonged to Morning Star Baptist Church in Trafalgar, and was a former member of Beech Grove Baptist Church, also in Trafalgar. He enjoyed planting a garden, taking care of his yard, including planting many trees and flowers, and mowing his lawn. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was faithful to his God, his family, and his country.
Donald retired from United Auto Worker Local 23. He was an inspector for 42 years at the General Motors Truck and Bus Division in Indianapolis. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea.
Survivors include his wife, Vercie Maggard; 2 children, Donna (Sam) Harrison of Franklin, Indiana, and Gina (Todd) Mitchell of Whiteland, Indiana; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Mitchell, Samantha Harrison, and Faith Harrison.
Donald was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Maggard, Doug Maggard, and Eugene Maggard; his sisters, Joan Adams, Gerldine Combs, and Genevie Norris; and his parents Dewey Maggard and Martha Maggard.
