Floy W. Whitworth

July 5, 1928 ~ May 25, 2018 (age 89)

Floy W. Whitworth, 89, of Franklin, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018. He was born to Burl and Gertrude (Davis) Whitworth in Garfield, Ky on July 5, 1928.

Floy worked at Nash Furniture in Franklin for 8 years, and Arvin Industry in Greenwood for 41 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Lodge 1208.  He married Ruth Goode in Franklin on May 10, 1947. He enjoyed traveling to Nashville, TN and going out west. Floy loved to watch old western TV shows and movies. He was an elder, trustee, and deacon of the Shiloh Community Church. He also taught Sunday School for many years. Floy loved to be outside, working in his yard. He loved his cats and dogs. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Floy loved keeping up with what was going on in the community by reading the newspaper.

Floy is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth (Goode) Whitworth of Franklin, his two children, William (Susan) Whitworth of Franklin and Doris (Phillip) Shaw of Franklin; 5 grandchildren, Aaron (Julie) Shaw, Emily (Daniel) Silverman, Robert (Erica) Whitworth, Jessica (Patrick) Webb, and Sarah (Bryan) Zeilinga; and nine great-grandchildren, Samuel and Maria Shaw, Micah and Isaiah Silverman, Elijah Webb, Thea and Connor Zeilinga, and Madalyn and Megan Whitworth.

Floy was preceded in death by his parents, Burl Whitworth and Gertrude Whitworth Smothers, and his step-father, Fletcher Smothers.

Memorial contributions may be made in Floy’s honor to Shiloh Community Church, 5117 E. Greensburg Rd, Franklin, IN 46131.

A visitation will be Wednesday, May 30th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel. A service will be Thursday, May 31st at 10 a.m. at the Franklin Chapel, 197 E. Jefferson St., Franklin. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Services will be conducted by Reverend Ron Ellis and Reverend Charles Paxton. Arrangements entrusted to Jessen Funeral Home, Franklin Chapel.
