James R. Chupp, 79, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018. He was born on June 21, 1938 in Beech Grove to the late Leslie Paul and Claire Chupp.
After high school, James enlisted into the United States Navy. He was an Electrician journeyman, but worked in the trucking business for 40 years. James loved to go fishing in the summers. He was an avid chess player and loved to play other games. He could always catch people's attention with one of his tall tales. He had a keen hand at carpentry.
James is survived by his wife, Charlene McGowan; seven children, Rebecca Sweeney of Sandstone, WV, Peggy L. Bickle of Ft. Worth, TX, Pam Parton of Indianapolis, James R. Chupp Jr of Bloomington, Beth (Rick) Sink of Ellettsville, Paula Hawkins of Gosport, and Janice Chupp of Bedford; two brothers, John Chupp of Indianapolis, and Phillip Chupp of Ellettsville; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren three of them on the way.
James was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Leslie Paul Chupp, and a sister Leslie Claire Anderson.
There will be a memorial gathering at The Gear, 230 Commerce Dr., Franklin, IN 46131, on Saturday, March 17 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
