Janie “Eliza” Ayres was led to Heaven by the hands of Jesus and welcomed by the arms of her husband Charles and her niece Jenny on Thursday, December 20, 2018. She was born to the late Dozier and Lillie Mae (Peal) Smith on March 13, 1934 in Hamlet, North Carolina.
Janie loved to cook and bake. She was a very giving person. Janie loved spending time with her family. Janie was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved going to church activities. She enjoyed babysitting and crocheting.
Janie is survived by her sister, Johnsie Tongate; many nieces and nephews; caregivers who are her nieces, Donna Brown, Karen Bailey and Rhonda Doty; the Sisters of the Church of the First Born; and four nephews who were like grandsons, David, Darrin, Doug and Derek Schwartz; and the little guy she adored, Jack.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Emery Ayres her niece Virginia (Jenny) Mae Schwartz; her brother, Alec Smith; and her sisters, Martha Piper and Geneva Clark.
A visitation will be Wednesday, December 26th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a service immediately following at Jessen Funeral Home, 729 N. U.S. Hwy 31, Whiteland, IN 46184. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
