Joe Rogers, 90, of Franklin, went to be with the Lord at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2019.
A native of Indianapolis, Joe was born July 10, 1928 to the late Otis Rogers and Julia Davis Rogers. Joe married Barbara (Sampson) Rogers who survives.
Joe was an equipment operator for Link Belt, retiring after 38 years. He was a Ham radio operator for 40 years (call sign KF9LQ) with Midstate Amateur Radio Club and served as a Federal Examiner. He enjoyed traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Brown County, Indiana, and going to garage sales during the summer. He organized and ran a Wednesday Night Supper Club.
Joe is survived by his wife of nearly 22 years, Barbara Rogers; two children, Rick (Johanna) Rogers of Islesboro, ME, Rod (Georgina) Rogers of Bargersville, IN; four grandchildren, Matthew, Morgan, Anika, and Holden; and numerous great-grandchildren. Joe also happily served the role of dad, grandpa, and great grandpa to five stepchildren, Andy Wolkoff (Vickie), Brenda Stroup (Brian), Cathy Doss (Bud), Shiela Ham (Lonnie), and Robin Rice; seven grandchildren, Angel, Marc, Kevin, Brandon, Ashley, Chelsea, Katina, and numerous great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Otis Rogers, Jr.
Joe adored his wife, kids, and grandkids and was known to unabashedly brag about them from time to time. Joe will be remembered for the challenges he overcame to live a long and happy life, his humor and wit, his service to the Ham Radio community, and his abiding love for his family.
Joe was a beloved member of Northern Park Baptist Church in Greenwood, Indiana. Memorial services were held on May 18th at the church.
