Mark A. Smith, 70, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 28th, 2020 in Greenwood, Indiana.
Mark was born on June 22nd, 1950 in Beech Grove, Indiana to the late Robert Paul “R.P.” Smith and Priscilla Paula (Dean) Smith.
Mark married his beloved wife, Kathleen Cothron-Smith, on December 19th, 1986 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were married for 33 wonderful years.
Mark was employed at IRE and worked as a general manager for 10 years until his retirement in 2016.
Mark was a great and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a true, lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears. He coached football at Manual High School and also coached his daughters’ teams at Indiana Central, where they won two State championships. Mark played and coached semi-pro football for the Indy Bears and then organized and coached the Indy Stars, winning the team league championships the years that he coached. Mark treasured his family and friends.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cothron-Smith, of Greenwood, Indiana; his two children, Jamie Cothron, of Greenwood, Indiana, Stephanie Smith, of San Diego, California; his six grandchildren, Tyler, Maddie, Landon, Gage, Alexis, Grayson; his three sisters, Priscilla (Bob) Kirsch, Lora Lisa (Tom) Mascari, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Michelle Scott, of Jensen Beach, Florida; his brother, Bobby (Brenda) Smith, of Westfield Indiana. Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made out to the American Cancer Society.
A celebration of Mark’s life is being planned for a later date.
