Mary Jo (Keatley) Keen

May 25, 1946 ~ April 28, 2022 (age 75)

Mary Jo Keen, 75, passed away peacefully in her home in Indianapolis on April 28, 2022. She was born at Mercy Hospital on May 25, 1946 in Portsmouth, Ohio to William and Aileen Keatley.

After moving to Indiana, Mary Jo married Harold Keen in 1964, and had two children. An energetic and fiercely devoted working mother, Mary Jo led a productive career at Indiana Bell that spanned over 20 years until her retirement in 1992. Once retired, her next phase of life included running a horse farm, doing community service, and spoiling her two grandsons.

In later years, Mary Jo enjoyed crossword puzzles, her beloved schnauzer, her bowling league, hosting family gatherings, and social outings with her friends. She also gave close to a decade of her time to St. Francis Hospital, first as a receptionist, and later as a volunteer.

Each day, Mary Jo chose joy. She had a fullness of heart, boundless kindness, and deep compassion for people that was unique and comforting. Always quick with a smile, Mary Jo was even quicker with her humor. All of these things allowed her to regularly experience the greatest happiness of human living: to love, and to be loved.

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter, Connie and her favorite son-in-law, Greg; her son, Curtis; two grandsons, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to IndyHumane.

Arrangements are entrusted to Jessen & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Whiteland Chapel.
