William Richard “Bill” Hackleman

August 26, 1952 ~ September 13, 2022 (age 70)

William Richard “Bill” Hackleman, 70, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

Bill was born August 26, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the Earl Hackleman and Irene (Garland) Hackleman. He graduated from Ben Davis High School and joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He later retired from CSX Railroad.

Bill, a.k.a. “Wild Bill”, enjoyed all forms of auto racing, especially NASCAR. He had a talent for woodworking - unless you think losing your thumb doesn't make you so great - and was a handyman because he didn't like to pay people to repair things. Everyone who knew him would scatter when he was repairing something; he reminded us of the father in The Christmas Story. Bill loved a great debate - politics, sports, you name it - and loved his family and always will.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon Hackleman of 48 years; his son, Michael Pierce Jr.; his daughter, Jessica Hackleman; 5 grandchildren, Ben Walker, Jenna Pierce, Shawna Pierce, Tyler Servin and Shania Pierce; 1 great-granddaughter, Taytum Shaw; his sister, Patricia Sare; his brother, Charles Hackleman.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Earl Hackleman; his mother, Irene Bough; his stepfather, William Bough; his sister, Zetta Hackleman.

No services are to be held at this time.

Arrangements are entrusted to Jessen & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Whiteland Chapel. 729 N. US Highway 31, Whiteland, IN 46184. 317-535-6880.
